Mission
The mission of S.O.S. is to promote and advocate for support and understanding of science among policy makers and the public at large. Through engaging and educating those not directly associated with science or science research, we hope to develop a more supportive environment for those who are invested in science. S.O.S. provides an outlet for members to develop projects that advance science education and advocacy in three main areas: Education, Outreach and Policy. Projects can range from individual endeavors, to group efforts, to campaigns that can involve all members of the organization.
S.O.S. is an officially registered student organization at The University of Chicago. It was started in 2005 by three graduate students in the biological sciences, but is open to everyone, undergraduates, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
